Austrian & Classical Economics Signed & Inscribed Modern Firsts

Description

DEDICATION COPY, inscribed by the author to the book's dedicatee. Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press, 1966. First edition; no later printing stated on the copyright page (LCCN 66-14453). Octavo. Original cloth in the cream textured dust jacket lettered in red.

Inscribed in ink on the front free endpaper: "To Simon Kuznets / With deepest appreciation and affection / Jacob Schmookler." The book is printed with the dedication "This book is dedicated to Simon Kuznets." Kuznets, who won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1971, was Schmookler's teacher and mentor. Schmookler's study of U.S. patent data argued that inventive activity follows market demand. That idea, the "Schmookler hypothesis," became a starting point for the modern economics of innovation. A presentation copy from author to dedicatee is the strongest association a book can have.

Condition: dust jacket lightly soiled and edge-worn, price-clipped. Earlier dealer's pencil note on the front pastedown reads "Dedication copy $20."
